WCFM Shipping Setup – Vendor Guide
Setting Up Your Shipping
Before listing products for sale, you need to set up how you will charge customers for delivery.
OutboardBits uses WCFM Marketplace for vendor stores, so your shipping settings are managed from your Vendor Dashboard.
This guide takes you through the basic setup.
1. Open Your Vendor Dashboard
Log in to your OutboardBits vendor account.
Go to your:
Vendor Dashboard
From the dashboard, open:
Settings
Then select:
Shipping
2. Set Your Shipping Location
You may see an option for your shipping or store location.
Enter the location from which you normally send your products.
Make sure the information is correct.
3. Set Up Your Shipping Rules
WCFM allows you to create shipping rules for your products.
The options available to you may depend on how OutboardBits has configured the marketplace.
You may be able to set shipping according to:
- Distance
- Weight
- Price
- Quantity
- A fixed shipping charge
For most vendors, a simple fixed shipping charge is the easiest option.
4. Decide What You Will Charge
Before entering your shipping price, think about the actual cost of sending the item.
Consider:
- Postage or courier cost
- Packaging
- Boxes or protective materials
- The size and weight of the item
- Any additional handling costs
Try to make your shipping charge realistic.
Do not charge more than necessary.
5. Different Types of Products
Remember that outboard parts can vary considerably in size and weight.
For example:
Small parts
Carburettors, fuel pumps, service parts and electrical components may be relatively inexpensive to post.
Larger parts
Props, lower units and other heavy components may require a different shipping charge.
Complete outboards
Large engines may need a specialist courier or collection.
Make sure your shipping arrangements are suitable for the products you sell.
6. Collection
If you offer local collection, make sure this is clearly stated in your store and product information.
For items such as complete outboard engines, collection may be more practical than standard delivery.
If collection is available, make sure the customer knows:
- Where collection takes place
- When collection is available
- Whether an appointment is required
7. Save Your Settings
After entering your shipping information, make sure you click:
Save Settings
Do not leave the page before saving.
Your shipping settings will then be used when customers purchase your products.
Check Your Shipping Before Going Live
Before adding lots of products, it is a good idea to test your shipping.
Create or edit a test product and check how the shipping charge appears when viewed as a customer.
Go through the checkout process and make sure:
☐ The correct shipping charge appears
☐ The customer can select the available delivery option
☐ Collection works if you offer it
☐ The shipping charge is reasonable
☐ The correct information appears at checkout
Important
Make sure your shipping charge covers the item
A shipping charge that works for a small part may not work for a large or heavy item.
Think about the type of products you sell when setting your shipping.
Check your courier restrictions
Some couriers have restrictions on the size, weight or type of item they will carry.
Make sure your chosen delivery service can handle the products you are selling.
Keep customers informed
If an item requires special delivery arrangements, explain this clearly in the product listing.
Having Problems?
If your shipping options are not appearing correctly, do not keep changing settings at random.
Take a screenshot of the problem and contact OutboardBits Support.
We can help you check the settings before you start receiving orders.
